JOHN SLEVIN SR., age 72, of Red Lion, PA, formerly of Edgewood, MD, for 30 years, died on October 15, 2006, at his home. Born in Edinburgh, IN, he was the son of the late Howard Estal Slevin Sr. and Hazel Marie Cottril Slevin. He was a steel worker for Bethlehem Steel at Sparrows Point where he retired after 39 years. He worked for the Martinsburg Journal as a truck driver for nine years. He married the former Margie Gregory in March of 1956. He was an accomplished bowler, an avid golfer for over 40 years, who has made 2 holes in 1, and an all around sportsman. He played softball for #4 Fire Hall in Martinsburg, West Virginia. He was a member of Bear Creek Golf Club, Swan Creek Golf Club, Stonebridge Golf Club and a former member of the Lodge Forest Hunting Club. He had a dry sense of humor, loved to vacation in Myrtle Beach, SC, and enjoyed fishing.
Mr. Slevin is survived by his wife of 50 years, Margie L. Gregory Slevin of Red Lion, PA; three sons, John Carl Slevin, Jr. and his wife Diana of Roanoke, VA, D. Michael Slevin Sr. and his wife Eileen of Edgewood, MD, and Robert Troy Slevin and his wife Michele of Street, MD; one daughter, Deborah K. Gosnell and her husband Raymon of Delta, PA; six brothers, Howard Slevin Jr. and his wife Elsie of Raytown, MO, Francis Slevin and his wife Nancy of Martinsburg, W. VA, Bill Slevin and his wife Linda of Pleasant Hill, MO, Ernest Gregory and his wife Mary of Glen Burnie, MD, Willis Gregory and his wife Deb of Waynesboro, PA, and Robert Gregory and his wife Alice of Greencastle, PA; two sisters, Rose Stauffer and her husband Alvin of Glen Burnie, MD, and Sylvia Gregory of Pasadena, MD; five grandchildren, David Slevin, Jr. of Sommersville, W. VA, Christina Gosnell of Yuma, AZ, Stacy Slevin of Edgewood, MD, Anthony Slevin of Edgewood, MD, and Mitchell Slevin of White, GA; and three great grandchildren; also survived by many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Slevin was predeceased by a daughter, Diana Lynn Slevin and his father-in-law and his mother-in-law, Willis and Minnie Gregory.
