John Turner Reeves of Forest Hill, Maryland, passed peacefully on January 4th, 2024 surrounded by his family. As John said on the day of his death, “the Boss is calling me home.”
A lifelong resident of Forest Hill, John always lived within a two-mile radius of his birthplace, and even though over the years John had many exciting travel memories, he was always most content at home in Forest Hill. Forest Hill was always home to John. John was born on his family’s farm; he was the fourth of five children. Growing up, John learned many life lessons on the family’s farm, and it was here that he became a “Jack of all trades” and these vast skills would continue to follow him throughout his life.
John first met his wife Patricia as a high school student driving their Bel Air High School bus. Sometime after, John asked Patricia out on a date and the rest was history. John and Patricia were married on January 18th, 1958 and enjoyed 65 years of loving one another in marriage.
John and Patricia raised their two sons, while working on their family’s dairy farm for over 30 years. John was a beloved father who taught the importance of honesty, integrity, and hard work. John finalized his work career at Southern States Petroleum Corporation in Bel Air for 10 years until he officially retired.
In retirement, John began to grow his passion for carpentry and design when he converted the milking barn into a home in 2000 where he and his wife, Patricia reside to this day. After converting the barn into his home, John enjoyed doing odd jobs and could often be found in a pair of overalls ‘getting it done.’
John loved to laugh and got great pleasure by bringing a smile to others. If you were going to spend time with John, rest assured you were going to walk away with a new story or joke. He enjoyed square dancing, playing cards and fellowshipping with his large circle of beloved family and friends.
John’s utmost passion was to serve his Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ. As a forever resident of Forest Hill, John served the community in many ways, from his time serving as a Gideon, leading a youth group, to being an active member and elder in several churches, John’s greatest mission was to share the love of Jesus with others.
John will forever be remembered for his never-failing quick wit, willingness to help anyone in need, and sound moral compass. John is survived by his wife, Patricia Pugh Reeves, two sons, Marc Owen Reeves (Wife, Evelyn) and Kevin John Reeves (Wife, Laurie), three grandchildren, Benjamin John Reeves, Rebecca Reeves Mount and Chase Turner Reeves, and four great granddaughters.
A memorial service for John will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at Centre United Methodist. Visitation will be held from 1:00pm to 2:00pm with service to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations would be made to Great Hope Bible Church.
