John R. Kopczynski, 84, of Bel Air, MD passed away on November 1, 2015 at his home. Born in Englewood, NJ, he was the son of the late John Raymond Kopczynski and Wanda Antoinette (Banaszynski) Kopczynski. He grew up in Edgewater, NJ (Bergen County) and attended high school at St. Cecilia in Englewood where he played football and was coached by Vince Lombardi. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served on the aircraft carrier the USS Midway. As a crane operator in New York City, he was involved with the construction of the foundation of the original World Trade Center in New York. Later on, he finished his work career working at Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD as a member of the Hazmat Removal Team from Edgewood Arsenal. He was a founding member of the American Legion Post in Edgewater, NJ, where he was a lifelong member, and upon moving to Maryland, became a member of the Edgewood American Legion Post. He enjoyed gardening, loved to be with his friends, and loved his football, both the Giants and the Ravens.
Mr. Kopczynski is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joan Marie (Moloughney) Kopczynski; son, John Kopczynski; daughter, Karen Hofheinz and her husband, Juergen; brother, Donald Walter Kopczynski and his wife, Eileen; and grandchildren, Aaron M., Brianna M. and Nicholas W. Kopczynski, Erik J., Christopher M. and Danielle D. Hofheinz. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Debra Kopczynski and his sister, Joanie Kopczynski.
