John Leo O'Neill

July 11, 1921 — November 16, 2010

John Leo O'Neill, age 89, of Bel Air, MD, passed away on November 16, 2010 at Bel Air Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Roslin, Ontario, Canada, "Jack" was the second son of the late James Vincent and Rosella (Whalen) O'Neill. He and his wife of 59 years, A. Elaine Gehan, were married on November 3, 1951 at St. Carthagh's Church in Tweed, Ontario by Mr. O'Neill's brother, Reverend Francis Joseph O'Neill. In 1952, the couple moved to Bel Air, where they raised their family. A carpenter and home builder, Mr. O'Neill built his first house for his parents as a young man with lumber he cut on the family farm, and constructed many homes in Bel Air over a period of almost fifty years. He was known for the outstanding quality of his work, his integrity, and for his gentle and friendly disposition. A man of quiet faith, Mr. O'Neill was a parishioner of St. Margaret Church for the past 59 years.

Mr. O'Neill is survived by his wife, A. Elaine O'Neill of Bel Air, MD; sons, Timothy John O'Neill, Patrick Joseph O'Neill and wife, Kerrin, Daniel Vincent O'Neill and wife, Anne, Sean Eugene O'Neill and wife, Bridget, and Michael Francis O'Neill, all of Bel Air, MD; daughter, Maureen Elaine O'Neill of Bel Air, MD; sisters, Cecilia O'Neill, Eileen Coughlin, Vera Fobert and husband, John, Betty Ross and husband Jack, Theresa McDermot and husband, James, Joan Hewitt and husband, Bill, and sister-in-law Florence Finkle and husband, Ernie, all of Canada; and granddaughters, Caroline, Casey, Kelley, Brenna, Kathleen, and Maura O'Neill.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Reverend Monsignor Francis Joseph O'Neill and Thomas O'Neill and his sisters, Helen Murphy and Mary O'Neill.
