John ''Jan'' Vaartjes Sr.

JOHN “JAN” VAARTJES SR, age 56, of Street, MD, died on October 10, 2006 at his home. Born in Amsterdam, Holland, he was the son of Cornelia Schotanus Vaartjes and the late Kornelis Vaartjes. A Harford County resident for 22 years, he also lived in Salisbury, North Carolina for eight years. He was a produce supervisor in the grocery store business and worked for 21 years for Food Lion and Acme grocery stores. He was well loved by everyone and enjoyed making others laugh and be happy. His family said he enjoyed helping others and working on clocks.

In addition to his mother, Mr. Vaartjes is survived by his wife of 34 years, Kathy A. Redman Vaartjes; three sons, John Vaartjes Jr. of Charlotte, NC, Scott B. Vaartjes of Street, MD, and Christopher M. Vaartjes of York, PA; two brothers, Kees “Casey” Vaartjes of North East, MD and Albert Vaartjes of Parkville, MD; two sisters Truus Abicht of Forest Hill, MD, and Anja Shannahan of Street, MD; and four grandchildren, Liah Vaartjes of Charlotte, NC, Kayla Vaartjes of Street, MD, Erin Vaartjes of Street, MD and Kara Vaartjes of Charlotte, NC.

In addition to his father, Mr. Vaartjes was predeceased by two brothers, Wietze Vaartjes and Willem Vaartjes.
