John "Jack" Thomas Lamb, Jr. age 80, of Darlington, Md., died September 7, 2012 at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore, MD.
Born July 10 1932, in Port Deposit, Md., he was the son of John Thomas Lamb and Janet Bluefield (Izatt) Lamb. His early years were spent in Port Deposit and Rising Sun. He attended Susquehanna SDA School in Perryville, and graduated from Mount Vernon Academy, Mt. Vernon, Ohio in 1950. He graduated from Walla Walla University with a B.A. in biology/zoology in 1954, and from the University of Delaware in 1957 with a M.S. in Medical Entomology.
Drafted into the United States Army, Lamb volunteered for Project Whitecoat - a research project involving germ tests on volunteer subjects. He attained the rank of SP3 and received the Good Conduct Medal during his service. He then joined the staff of the Virginia State Health Department in Norfolk, Virginia, and was involved in research on the transmission of Rocky Mountain Spotted fever -he co-authored articles on this work for the American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, and the Annals of the Entomological Society of America. Beside research, romance blossomed with a secretary in the department, Katherine Janet McDaniel who became his bride in 1962.

He would retire from the department in 1998 as the Director of Environmental Health. His service was recognized with a citation from Governor Paris Glendenning noting his "demonstration of high integrity and ability, meriting our great trust and respect ..."
Lamb was an active member of Wilna Seventh-day Adventist Church, holding several offices including school board member and school treasurer. After retirement he volunteered with the Harford County Meals on Wheels Program for 10 years.
As he entered his final months he was thrilled to have reached 80 years of age, was laying plans for travel to Hawaii with his special friend, proudly sharing photos of his grandchildren to everyone he could corner, continuing to research Darlington's history, visiting his friends daily at the Ball Park restaurant, or making the rounds to his bank, the Hallmark store for cards to send to friends, or the Darlington Post Office to get his mail.
