John ''Jack'' E. Lufburrow Sr.

January 23, 1925 — January 20, 2013

John (Jack) Egbert Lufburrow Sr., of Bel Air and Havre de Grace, MD, beloved husband of the late Iris Catherine Meyer Lufburrow, and son of the late Norman and Evelyn Lufburrow of Baltimore, passed away suddenly at the University of Maryland Medical Center on January 20, 2013. He was 87.

Born on January 23, 1925 in Newark, NJ, he spent most of this life in the Baltimore Area. After graduating from Forest Park High School, he was drafted into the U.S. Army to serve during World War II. He was selected for the A.S.T.P. (Army Specialized Training Program) Unit studying engineering until the college program was cancelled following D-Day. He was transferred to the 99th Infantry Division's 324th Medical Battalion and served as a medic and ambulance driver and received 3 Battle Stars (Ardennes, Remagen, Rohr Pocket) and was awarded the Combat Medic Badge. He attended the Baltimore College of Commerce, majoring in accounting and graduating with an ABA Degree. His long term employment of almost 52 years was with Heritage Savings Bank. He was a member of the Board of Directors and served as its President for 24 years after which he served as the Chairman of the Board for 7 years until the bank sold in 2002.

During his career, he served on many industry committees of the Maryland League of Building Savings and Loan Associations, and the Maryland Savings and Loan League. He served on the Board numerous times and was President in 1965.

He was active in the United Methodist Church, where he was a longtime member of first St. Luke's UMC in Woodlawn, MD and then Bel Air UMC, including participating in the choir and on many committees and boards. His membership in the Baltimore City Kiwanis Club lasted over 40 years.

He is survived by his three children, Dr. John E. Lufburrow Jr. and his wife, Charlene Lufburrow, of Havre de Grace, MD, Lynda L. Trueblood and her husband, Michael Trueblood, of Orlando, FL, Sandy L. Bishop and her husband, Col (Ret.) Michael P. Bishop, of Huntington, MD and his nine grandchildren and four great-granddaughters.
