John "Jack" Gordon Harvey, Jr., age 83, of Bel Air, Maryland while surrounded by family, passed away on September 9, 2023 at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland. Born in Frostburg, Maryland, he was the son of the late John and Evelyn (Chamberlain) Harvey and husband of the late Mary (Derda) Harvey.
Jack was a man of faith and a devoted member of Christ Our King Presbyterian Church. He found great strength and solace in his spirituality, which guided him throughout his life. However, it was his remarkable journey in Alcoholics Anonymous that truly defined him.
With unwavering determination, Jack embraced the principles of Alcoholics Anonymous and achieved an incredible milestone of 41 years of continuous sobriety. He was an inspiration to many, serving as a sponsor and offering guidance and support to countless individuals on their own paths to recovery. Jack's compassion and empathy touched the lives of those he encountered, leaving an indelible impact on the recovery community.
Beyond his dedication to Alcoholics Anonymous, Jack was a cherished friend and loving father. His memory will forever be treasured by his family and friends.
In addition to his commitment to sobriety and his faith, Jack had a passion for golf, singing and traveling. He had traveled to many destinations around the world and often spoke about his trip to Israel, where he walked the same path as Jesus.
John is survived by his sons, Aaric (Michelle) Harvey, and Richard (Sandi) Harvey; daughter, EvAnn (Don Miller) Harvey; sister, Glenda McGrath; grandchildren, Colin Townrow, Gregory Stout, Michael Stout, Max Moffitt, Tammy McFarlen, Erin Miklas, Shannon Woods, Olivia Harvey, and Alex Crabbe along with 12 great- grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, Jack was preceded in death by son, Michael Harvey and daughter, Melinda “Mindy" Stout.
In honor of Jack, there will be a celebration of life on Sept 30, 2023 @2:30pm at Christ Our King Church in Bel Air, MD
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Mann House Inc., 14 Williams Street Bel Air, MD 21014
