John H. Himes

John H. Himes, age 82, of Joppa, MD passed away on October 20, 2013 at his home. Born in Baltimore, he is the son of the late John Frederick Himes and Frances Brown Johnston. A veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard, he was a Harford County resident for 46 years. He worked at the Glen L. Martin Company in the Nuclear Division then went to Teledyne Energy Systems while earning a Master Degree in Mechanical Engineering at Johns Hopkins. He retired in 1994 after 35 years. He was a member of Joppatowne VFW Post 5838, Greyhound Pets of America, past Cub Scout Leader and coached his son's baseball team. He published three children's books, enjoyed painting and writing poems and was the Santa Claus at Pet Smart. The family would like to thank everyone for their comfort and support.

Mr. Himes is survived by his wife of 59 years, Margaret (Smith) Himes; sons, John Wm. Himes and wife, Connie, of Dundalk, Richard S. Himes and wife, Jessica, of Havre de Grace and Patrick L. Himes and wife, Amanda, of Edgewood; sister, Joan Himes Fallon; brothers, Richard Johnston and wife, Joyce and Edward Johnston and wife, Yvonne; grandchildren, Kyle M. Himes, Emma L. Himes and Alex S. Himes; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Patricia Lynn Himes, brothers, Douglas H. Johnston and Gary Francis Himes, and brother-in-law, Tom Fallon.
