John E. Hieber of Bel Air, MD, departed this life at the age of 85. John died peacefully with his beloved high school sweetheart/wife, Leora, and their children by his side. John was born in rural Lane, Kansas on the eve of our Lord's birthday, December 24, 1936, to Jacob and Elsie Hieber. One of three children, John is survived by his sister, Mary Ellis, and predeceased by his brother, Donald Hieber. John graduated with an electrical engineering degree from the University of Kansas and obtained his master's from the University of Akron, which engaged his opportunity to become an aerospace engineer at Allied-Signal Aerospace, Bendix Communications Division (now Raytheon) in Baltimore, MD, where he would retire 30 years later.
John is survived by his wife, Leora Hieber; two daughters, Michele Taylor (Franklin Taylor) and Gretchen Mink; four grandchildren, Richard Taylor, Elizabeth Taylor, Samuel Mink and Alex Mink; three great-grandchildren, Patricia Ashbridge, Franklin Lewis and Renee Taylor; his sister-in-law, Loree Hieber; and many nieces and nephews. John devoted his life to his family and friends, his church and his work (his hobby).
A memorial service is planned for Friday, March 11, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at the Bel Air United Methodist Church (BAUMC). John will be laid to rest with his ancestors in Lane, Kansas.
People wishing to honor John, in lieu of flowers, can make donations to the "Pay it Forward Scholarship Endowment" at BAUMC, or the American Heart Association.
