JOHN EDWARD “BUD” KAUFMAN, age 86, of Forest Hill, MD, died on March 30, 2006 at the Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown, MD after suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and a recent fall and broken hip. He was born to the late Frank and Florence Harrington Kaufman on May 3, 1919 in the Hamilton section of Baltimore City, in what was at the time farm country, attended St. Dominic’s School and graduated in 1937 from Loyola High School. He played baseball in city-wide leagues. He served in WWII as a Surgical Technician in the Medical Detachment attached to the 3rd Army, 94th Division, 3rd Battalion, 302 Infantry with a rank of Staff Sergeant. He saw action through Germany, the Alps and Czechoslovakia. He was a salesperson after the war for the old Rice’s Bakery in Baltimore, and lived with his family in the Northwood neighborhood of Baltimore City near Morgan College, where he belonged to the Markland Kelly Post of the American Legion, where he contributed to many community fundraisers and events. His family said that he enjoyed selling, and was known for sharing company and jokes with his clients, and will be remembered fondly by many for his enduring sense of humor. He moved to Harford County with his wife after his children were grown, and worked at the Winter’s Run Golf Course until a stroke in 1994 forced his retirement. He was also a member of the Bel Air Post of the American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans.
