JOHN D. STEELE, age 77, of Joppa, died at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center on March 29, 2004. Born in Bristol, Virginia, he was the son of the late Eugene Vance and Barbara Jessee Steele, and the husband of the late Orpha Elizabeth Rigsby Steele. He retired after 38 years of service with the Patapsco and Back River Railroad where he worked as a conductor. He was a 50 year member of the United Transportation Union. He was a resident of Joppa for 46 years. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WW II.
Mr. Steele is survived by two sons, Charles W. Badders of Joppatowne; Leon L. Badders of Dundalk; two daughters, Betty L. Weaver of Baltimore; Sharon A. Asbury of Baltimore; 18 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was predeceased by one daughter, Belza L. Jones.
