JOHN CHARLES BURKHARDT, age 91, of Belcamp died in Upper Chesapeake Medical Center on March 31, 2004. Born in Middletown, Ohio, he was the son of the late William A. and Elizabeth Marling Burkhardt. He had retired in 1965 after 23 years of service with the U.S. Army. He was a master sergeant serving in WW II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam Conflict. He was a life member of the American Legion Post 17, the Elks 2354, the Abingdon V.F.W. #5337, and the D.A.V. He was also a member of the Retirees Association. He had retired from Civil Service after about 10 years with Social Security.
Mr. Burkhardt is survived by his wife of 59 years, Georgette Juliette Germain Burkhardt; four sons, Daniel K.C. Burkhardt of Abingdon; William Robert Burkhardt of Columbus, Georgia; John Charles Burkhardt, Jr. of Leicester, Massachusetts; Michael A. Burkhardt of Keedysville, Maryland; two daughters, Linda S. Martin of Belcamp; Patricia J. Falany of Ocean Springs, Mississippi; one sister, Nelle Forbes of Bellaire, Ohio; ten grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one son, Richard A. Burkhardt; one daughter, Elizabeth Anne Burkhardt; one brother, William Wilbert Burkhardt; one sister, Elizabeth Burkhardt; and one granddaughter, Lauren Martin.
