John C. Youngblood, 88, born in Holland, died on Saturday, 14 January 2012 at his home during a house fire. He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Erika Renate Youngblood (nee Gorlish, and his brother Peter.
John retired from the Army after 20 years as a Noncommissioned Officer. He had served during WWII and participated in the landing with Allied Forces at Normandy, followed by the Rhineland, and Central Europe campaigns. His overseas tours included England, Germany, and Alaska, and his stateside tours included Camp Atterbury, IN, Fort Lee, VA and Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD. He received the EAME Theater Ribbon with 3 Bronze Stars, GCM 4th Award and the Purple Heart Medal for injuries sustained in France during WWII. Upon his retirement from military service, he was employed as a Master Instructor in Quartermaster Heavy Equipment Repair by the US Army Ordnance Center and School at both Fort Lee, VA and Aberdeen Proving Ground. John retired from civil service in 1991. He was a member of the German Radio Club and Club Fidelitas of Baltimore. In his later years, John was a constant companion of both Barry and Margie Decker of Aberdeen, MD.
Interment will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.
