John "Jack" Borgal, age 85, of Airville, Pennsylvania passed away peacefully on November 19, 2024, at Senator Bob Hooper House in Forest Hill, Maryland. Born in Portland, Maine, he was the son of the late Russell Borgal and Eleanor (Noble) Sandberg and husband of 54 years to Barbara (Swift) Borgal. He graduated from Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, MA with a degree in theology. A longtime member of Fawn Grove Church of the Nazarene, Rev. Borgal was the pastor of the church in the early 70's and returned in the late 80’s as the associate pastor. Rev. Borgal also spent years as a pastor for the Nazarene churches in Norwich, Connecticut, Warwick, New York, and Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Aside from his ministry work Jack loved gardening both vegetables and flowers. He was incredibly talented at landscaping and interior decorating of his home. His house was filled with antique furniture that he had refinished. He loved history and was an avid reader of newspapers, magazines, and biographies. His favorite time of year was Christmas, and he spent many hours during December decorating his Victorian tree and setting up his collections of nativities, angels, snowmen, Santas, carolers and his Currier and Ives village. Jack was very generous in supporting missions work and had an extensive collection of souvenirs from around the world that missionaries had given him. He served as the mission’s president for his local church and as the compassionate ministry’s director of the Mid-Atlantic Nazarene District for many years. One of Jack's biggest accomplishments was founding the Fawn Grove Compassionate Center. For over twenty-five years it has provided hope and help for thousands of people locally, nationally, and internationally through shipments of relief supplies.
In addition to his wife, John is survived by his son, Ethan Timothy (Stephanie) Borgal; daughter, Carrie Elizabeth Adkins; granddaughters, Melanie and Piper Borgal and Averi Grace Adkins; sisters, Anne Durgin, and Linda (Tom) Browne; brothers, Mark, and Alan Borgal; and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his twin brother, James R. Borgal.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Fawn Grove Compassionate Center, 5300 Fawn Grove Road, Pylesville, MD 21132
During the service, there will be a time for anyone who is interested to share memories of Jack. A luncheon at Fawn Grove Church of the Nazarene fellowship hall will follow after the interment.
