John Ashley Gerard

May 9, 1986 — March 8, 2021

John Ashley Gerard, age 34, of Jarrettsville, Maryland passed away on March 8, 2021 at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, Maryland. Born in Towson, Maryland, he was the son of John and Linda (O'Dell) Gerard. He was a graduate of Perry Hall High School in 2004. In addition to his parents, John is survived by his brother, James Sebastian Gerard, his girlfriend, Katherine Niebel and her daughters, Kora Niebel and Isabelle Cieszynski, as well as many beloved cousins, aunts and uncles.

John was an amazingly bright and gifted child. He was able to take apart and rewire a telephone at age two and learned the inner workings of computers at age ten, when he re-designed one of his favorite video games. His gift for working with computers eventually led to his position as I.T. Manager for the family business, Polystyrene Products Company.

John was a very enthusiastic, energetic and fun-loving child. He would often act as “mediator” when there were childhood “squabbles” among the many kids in the neighborhood, and eventually, he would become a great listener and counselor to many of those same kids. His ability to listen with great empathy to other’s troubles, along with his loyal nature and
fun-loving personality earned him a tremendous number of friends during his lifetime.

John always loved the outdoors, and at one point grew his own garden and had fruit trees. He loved all manner of plants and animals, especially salt-water fish and many types of
reptiles, which he even raised at one point. Later in his life, he loved entertaining many of his
friends outdoors at his beautiful home in Jarrettsville.

John was very artistic and was also a musician. He was especially talented at singing and playing guitar. But one of his most impressive talents was his ability to fix just about anything, whether it be a home repair, or someone’s troubles!

A very loving and loyal young man, John had the most loving and devoted relationships with
his Mom, Dad, and especially his brother, James. He and James had a most excellent childhood together and continued to be very close during John’s entire life. John will certainly be missed by not only his loving family, but by his many wonderful friends,
