John Alfred Parsons, age 85, of Abingdon, MD, died on June 20, 2010, at his home. Born in Purlear, NC, he was the son of the late Rev. James Arthur Parsons and Tessie Mae Parsons. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he received medals for serving in the American, Asiatic, Pacific, European, and African Theatre's, and Victory WWII. He was employed at Edgewood Arsenal as an engineering technician, and in 1983 received the Department of the Army Achievement Award for Technical Achievement in the Chemical Systems Laboratory. He was a member of the Masons Mt. Ararat Lodge #44, as well as, Towne Baptist Church in Joppa.
Mr. Parsons is survived by his wife, Lillian S. Parsons of Abingdon, MD; son, Jeffery J. Parsons of Bel Air, MD; daughter, Deborah S. Lee of Abingdon, MD; sisters, Selma Dodd of Burlington, NC and Ruby Brooks of Purlear, NC; five grandchildren, John and Sarah Lee, Jeffery, David, and Alexandra Parsons; and three great-grandchildren, Kalyn Lapointe, Emily and Abigail Lee.
Pallbearers will be Dr. Steve Harden, Mr. Earnest Whitaker, Mr. Tucker Smith, Mr. Doug Whitmire, Mr. John Wayne Lee, Mr. Jeffery Scott Parsons, Mr. David Parsons, Ms. Sarah Lee, and Ms. Alexandra Parsons.
