Joan S. Knapton, of Churchville, MD, died at the age of 78 on November 15, 2016, at the Senator Bob Hooper House in Forest Hill, MD. She was born in Quincy, MA, to Jacob Edwin and Anna Ebba (Johnson) Jacobson. Before moving to Maryland, she attended Brown University, where she sang with the Chattertocks a cappella group. She graduated from Notre Dame of Maryland University with a bachelor's degree in psychology, did graduate work at Loyola and attended Goucher College and Harford Community College. She worked as a social worker in foster care in Baltimore City and enjoyed music and needlepoint. She also loved to read.
Survivors include her husband, John Knapton; her children, Edward Knapton of Texas, Alan Knapton of Maryland, Debbie Dunbar of Florida, Julie Lynn of Maryland, Mary Goldsborough of Maryland, Carolyn Barcomb of Pennsylvania and William Knapton of Maryland; and 25 grandchildren.
