Joan E Johnson, 83, resident of San Diego, passed on Monday, February 8 of natural causes at her home in University City.
Joan was born in Baltimore, MD, on July 6, 1932 to Myrtle and Harry Monks. She received her RN degree from Union Memorial School of Nursing at Johns Hopkins University in 1953, and her CRNA from the Barnes Hospital School of Anesthesia at Washington University in 1956. Joan continued her education with a BA from the University of Redlands in 1976.
In July 1, 1956 Joan married Walter Johnson of New Haven, CT, and they had four children.
Joan's career as a Nurse Anesthetist included, in part, work with the Project HOPE on its voyage to Peru and in leadership with the AANA.
Her church, St. Marks Methodist, was a big part of her life. She was very active in mission work where she served locally and around the world.
Joan is survived by her children: Charles, Lauren, Scott and Arthur along with her eight grandchildren. Joan loved activities with family and friends. She had a strong spirit with a laugh that brightened the room. Joan's greatest passion was for her family with her children and grandchildren being rich recipients of her love.
