Joan B. Norman, age 86, of Abingdon, MD passed away on February 6, 2014 at her home. Born in Ashland, WI, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Paul and Barbara Althea Fisher Jardinski and wife of the late Joseph J. Norman. Joan is survived by her children, Mickey J. Norman and wife, Tricia, of Essex, Donna M. Meyers of Abingdon, Richard E. Norman and wife, Barbara, of Westminster, Terri Martinelli and husband, Leo, of Havre de Grace, James M. Norman of Monkton, Patricia A. Skinner and husband, Jeff, of Jarrettsville, Jerome P. Norman of Phoenix and Catherine A. Norman of Abingdon; ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She retired to Pocomoke City after working at C&P Telephone Company as a draftsman and quickly gained local notoriety for her elegant quilts and sewing artistry. Joan was an active member of several quilters groups including the Shorebirds Quilters. She also used her considerable needlework skills on behalf of charities by knitting clothing for the less fortunate in the community. Joan loved to travel and sailed with her daughters in and around the Caribbean. Joan and her late husband Joe were avid anglers on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. She attended St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church and was very social, making friends no matter where she went. Joan was always happiest when she was surrounded by her family and truly enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
