Jean Eleanor Hanson died on January 27, 2013 in Lutherville. She was 98 years old. She was the beloved wife of the late Herman A. Hanson; mother of Dianne Hanson Nagel and her husband, the late Dr. J. David Nagel, of Butler, Maryland; grandmother of Carrie Hanson Etheridge and her husband, Randal Bennett Etheridge, III; and great-grandmother of Veronica Mae Etheridge, all of Charles Village. She was predeceased by her brothers, J. Lester Spicer, J. Allen Spicer and Harold Spicer.
Mrs. Hanson was a 1932 graduate of the Post Road School and was an active participant in reunions and was honored in 2002 as the oldest living graduate. She graduated from Maryland General Hospital School of Nursing in 1935. She had a distinguished career in Nursing at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in both the Women's Clinic and Marburg Buildings. During her career she worked with many renowned Hopkin's physicians including, Dr. Alan Guttmacher, Dr. Helen Taussig and Drs. Georgianna and Howard Jones. She was a staff nurse in the then Women's Clinic and did private duty in the Marburg Pavilion.
She also worked in employee health at Edgewood Arsenal and did volunteer work with the Harford County Department of Health. Mrs. Hanson used her nursing skills in assisting in the care of many family members and neighbors throughout the years. Her daughter and granddaughter followed her into the healthcare professions.
Mrs. Hanson, with her husband, managed a dairy farm in Magnolia until it's sale to the Harford County Board of Education in 1974. She continued to live on the remaining acreage until her move to Lutherville in 2010. She was active in the Golden Age Club, Wilna Homemakers and was a communicant of the original Mountain Christian Church.
