John Curtis Johnson AKA Jay “JJ” Johnson, 79, of Bel Air MD went to be with our Lord and Savior on January 29th, 2022, at 7:15am.
Born in Bassett, Virginia in 1942 he then relocated to Baltimore, Maryland where he began his 33 years of dedicated service in the Baltimore city fire department. For 25 years of that service, he served as an officer in the department. He received multiple awards including lifesaving awards, commendations, and distinguished service awards throughout his career. Most of his career was spent at some of the busiest firehouses in West Baltimore. He also served his country for 2 years in the United States Army.
John was pre-deceased by his father Clarence Edward, his mother Ethel L., and his brother Ronald. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Rena, son Terry Johnson and wife Lynda from Ohio, daughters from Maryland, Chandra Ford and husband David, and Christa O’Hara and husband Erin. As well as eight grandchildren Madison, Parker, Riley, Marshall, Morgan, Haley, Logan, Evan, Ashley and Shelby; his sister Becky Jackson, brother Odell Smith from Martinsville, Virginia, and a multitude of nieces, nephews, and other extended family. Along with, many friends who loved his sense of humor and his kindness to everyone.
For those unable to attend, the services will be live streamed via the McComas Funeral Home website starting promptly at 12pm on February 3rd and will be available for some time afterwards to view.
