Janie Dabney Barnes, 68, of Joppa, MD passed away on July 21, 2017. Born in Baltimore, MD, she was the daughter of Linwood Dabney Sr. and Anna Dabney and was the wife, for 48 years, of the late Tony Dean Barnes. She earned her Bachelors and Masters Degrees from Towson State University. For over 40 years she dedicated herself to the Baltimore City Public School system, first as a teacher, a reading specialist, and then principal. Her love of travel led her around the world, and was highlighted by two pilgrimages to the Holy Land and most recently a trip to Iceland. She was an avid reader, and enjoyed spending time in her retirement caring for her grandchildren and Sunday dinners with the family.
Mrs. Barnes is survived by her children, Kristin White Barnes and wife, Tosha, of Joppa, Amanda Barnes Stevens and husband, Gregory, of Pasadena, Ashley Barnes Andrews and husband, Jonathan, of Joppa and Jason Barnes of Havre de Grace; grandchildren, Annabella and Ava Barnes, May and Jamesantony Andrews; siblings, Carolyn and Markland Davis, Kathleen Furlong, and Linda Dabney.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Linwood Dabney Jr, and Randolph Dabney.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her honor to the Maryland Food Bank, 2200 Halethorpe Farms Road, Baltimore, MD 21227.
