Janice was the only child of Walter Herbert Carico and Eva Louise Bechtold Carico. She graduated from Bel Air High School. She was an airplane spotter during World War II. She was a nurturing and encouraging mother and grandmother, serving as a Cub Scout den mother and Campfire Girl leader. She loved the Lord and actively served her church. Throughout her life, she enjoyed traveling, and copiloted her husband's private airplane for several years. Janice enjoyed cooking and sewing. She was a tireless caregiver for her father and her husband.
She was preceded in death by her husband. She was loved greatly and will be missed by her two surviving children and their families -- her son, Philip L. Scarff, III, his wife Megha Joshi, her three granddaughters, Rasika, Asavari, and Geetanjali Scarff, and her daughter Carol Hawkins and Carol's husband Tom.
