Janice Bowen Armstrong

Janice Bowen Armstrong died peacefully at her home on June 2, 2010, surrounded by her family at the age 85. Born in Rock, WV, she was the daughter of the late John Porter and Leona Elizabeth Davis Bowen and wife of the late Milton Frederick Gerlach and the late Harry Campbell Armstrong. An avid reader, she enjoyed attending her bookclub, keeping current with world events and politics, and supported many charitable causes. She also enjoyed writing, swimming, and long walks along the beach. She had a lifetime interest in France, learned to speak the language, and for her 80th birthday celebration, her daughters took her there to fulfill a lifelong dream.

Mrs. Armstrong is survived by her son, Fred Gerlach of Bridgeport, WV and John Gerlach of Northport, Long Island; daughters, Anne Piluk of Perryville, MD, Tina Slevin and Paula Dusharm, both of Moorseville, NC; sister, Mary Etta Cook; eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; lifetime friend, Irene Gerlach; and numerous close friends and family.
