James W. Davis, age 81, of Abingdon, MD, died on May 26, 2009 at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD due to complications from a tractor accident. Born in Abingdon, MD, he was the son of the late James Norman and Mildred Irene Moulsdale Davis, and husband of the late Ann Phillips Davis. A life member of Abingdon Volunteer Fire Company, he was a member of Cokesbury United Methodist Church and was a past member of the Bush River Boat Club. He had owned and operated his own automotive business with his father, J. Norman Davis & Son, before going to work for Scott Pontiac of Bel Air then retiring from Harford County Department of Public Works. In 1989 he went to work for his lifelong friend Howard McComas III at McComas Funeral Home.
Jimmy and Ann (his wife) loved to dance, and were well known around Abingdon. They had a 60+ year love affair and had 5 children, all girls. Jim had to wait until grandchildren to get that "boy" that he could teach to pee in the woods. Jim was the consummate tinkerer, and could fix just about anything, loved to restore old cars and machinery and used to race boats. He and his dad had an award winning racing boat in the 1940's called "So Long". Jim had a love for a great party, funny hats, and could crack up an entire room with his antics. He will be terribly missed.
Mr. Davis is survived by his daughters, Judy A. Mahmoodi of Gaithersburg, MD, Cindy J. Brumley of Des Plaines, IL, Patti A. Abbott of Columbia, MD, Sherri L. Comer of Conowingo, MD, and Penny C. Weaver of Campti, LA; sisters, Esther M. Kirmse of Southport, NC and Ruth I. Anderson of Abingdon, MD; ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his sister, Elma L. Baker.
Pallbearers will be Mo Mahmoodi, Charles Friedman, Rodney Comer, Chris Weaver Sr, Landon Weaver, Chris Alan Weaver II, James Brumley, Fred Rush, Jerry Anderson Jr., and Howard K. McComas III. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Anderson Sr., J. Douglas Abbott, Larry Kirmse, Roger Kirmse, Dennis Nicholas, Tim Nicholas, Randy Watts, Scott McKenna, John Giles, and the McComas Funeral Home family members.
