James Pruitt Mitchell

James Pruitt Mitchell, age 78, of Joppa, MD, died on December 12, 2008 at his home. Born in Lavonia, GA, he was the son of the late James Burette and Mary Vella Pruitt Mitchell, also preceded by his sons, James Steven and Steven Keith Mitchell. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he worked as an Assurance Manager for NASA for over 20 years and retired on January 3, 1992. He also worked for Mountain Christian Church at the Community Outreach Center and was a pioneer for Tabitha's House (1998), under the direction of Linda Underhill, and volunteered right up until the time of his death. He was Chairman of the School Board for Mountain Christian Church for the first class in 1975, as well as, a member of the church's Chancel Choir and the Men's Ensemble. In 2007 he was nominated as one of Harford County's "Most Beautiful People". He also enjoyed golf.

James Mitchell is survived by his wife, Erma Janet Dunkle Mitchell; children, Dale Mitchell and his wife, Shelly, of Houston, TX, Judy Santiago and husband, Brian, and Janet Phipps and husband, Jack, all of Fallston, MD; brother, Harry Martin Mitchell of Lavonia, GA; grandchildren, Kyle Mitchell, Amanda Payne, Erin Mitchell, Danielle Mitchell and husband, Tim, Chad Phipps, Taylor Santiago, Morgan Santiago, and Sydney Phipp; and great-grandchildren, Ella and Emma.

Pallbearers will be Dale Mitchell, Jack Phipps, Chad Phipps, Kyle Mitchell, Harry Dunkle, and Tom Brown.
