James ''Newty'' Berrett

December 28, 1918 — September 1, 2008

JAMES "NEWTY" BERRETT, age 89, of Jarrettsville, MD, died on September 1, 2008 at his home. Born in Relay, MD, he was the son of the late James Newton and Alice Margaret Byrne Berrett. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he retired as a tractor trailer driver from Tristate Trucking after 30 years and was a member of the Jarrettsville VFW. He played baseball for the Harford County Senior Baseball Team, participated in the St. Margaret Pony Club and enjoyed playing golf.

Mr. Berrett is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ruby Marie Strawderman Berrett of Jarrettsville, MD; three daughters, Sandy L. McDaniels of Briarcliff, TX, Debbie A. Dow of Bel Air, MD and Diana L. Berrett of Jarrettsville, MD; a step-son Albert R. Makowski of Winchester, VA; a sister Margaret Bennett of Relay, MD; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Albert Makowski, Nick Morrison, Brian Morrison, Ronnie Short, Kevin Dow and Gary Eckhart.
