James "Jay" C. Lunceford, III of White Marsh, Maryland, passed away surrounded by love on March 7, 2024. After a long battle with metastatic prostate cancer, he is finally at peace. He was 59 years young. Jay was the beloved husband of Joanne M. Van Slyke-Lunceford for 39 years.
Jay lived life with a passion for many things. A dedicated Ravens fan, he loved football games, and was a season ticket holder for many memorable years. His green thumb and love for the outdoors were evident in his skill for landscaping and gardening. There wasn’t a sunny weekend where you wouldn’t find Jay putzing around the garden, headphones blaring classic rock, and smoking a cigar. In addition to his love for the Ravens and the outdoors, he could often be found tinkering around in the garage with a NASCAR race on the TV, working on various projects at once. He could fix almost anything. Jay was a talented auto mechanic, an expert at diagnostics, and made it his lifelong profession.
Jay also shared many cherished trips traveling in the family RV with Joanne, a bucket list item finally checked off. He was an avid movie watcher, and binged on TV shows in his spare time. A music enthusiast as well, he passed on his love of rock and roll to his daughters, and took them to their first concerts. One of his greatest joys however, was found in the time spent with his grandchildren, who brought endless smiles and laughter into his life.
Jay is survived by his devoted wife, Joanne, his daughters, Jessie, Jaimie, Jen, and Tina, and his sons-in-law Brandon and Benny, all whom adored Jay unconditionally. He will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren, Bentley, Autumn, Vianna and Tallulah. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Debbie, and nephews, Matt and Austin, who will carry forward his memory with love and admiration.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Senator Bob Hooper House, c/o Upper Chesapeake Health Foundation, 520 Upper Chesapeake Drive, Suite 405, Bel Air, MD 21014, in honor of Jay's compassionate spirit and the care he received during his final days.
