James John Raab of Bel Air, devoted husband and father, passed away peacefully on January 9th 2023 at the age of 96 after a short illness. He was born on a farm in Baltimore on April 23rd 1926. He was the third of 11 children of the late John Peter Raab and Lula (Christ) Raab and husband of 65 years of the late Patricia Ann (Felty) Raab. He grew up working on the family’s farm, first in Baltimore and then in Harford County. He then had a long career as a heavy equipment operator until his retirement in 2008.
James was a long-time parishioner of Saint Ignatius Roman Catholic Church in Hickory. He enjoyed hunting and crabbing and was an avid gardener and fan of construction equipment, antique tractors and steam engines.
James is survived by his sons David Raab and wife Lori and Mark Raab and wife Mary, both of Jarrettsville, Timothy Raab and Christopher Raab and wife Sandy, both of Pylesville and daughters Susanne Katrinic and husband Edward of Lusby, MD and Lisa Kasem and husband Safaa of Brooklyn, New York; sister Louise Laudenklos and brother Edwin Raab; as well as 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
James was predeceased by his siblings Mildred Burton, Angela Kahl, Doris Koegel, Martha Raab, Alice Comes, Peter Raab, Helen Woodward and Thomas Raab.
Interment will be private.
