James Jerome Coates

James Jerome Coates, age 90, of Joppa, Maryland passed away on October 13, 2021, at Sterling Care Riverside in Belcamp, Maryland. Born in Washington D.C., he was the son of the late Waymon Turner and Agnes (Coates) Kendricks and husband of the late Cozette “Cozy” (Ruffin) Coates. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served in the Korean War. He worked at Bendix Aerospace in Ann Arbor MI on some of the Apollo missions, the Lunar Modular and helped train staff on some of the equipment they were going to be using in space. James received The Governor’s Citation from the state of Maryland 10/07/1991 through AlliedSignal Aerospace. He was acknowledged by the House of Representatives in Washington D.C. for 25 years of service by Congress member, Helen Bentley.
James is survived by his children, Deborah J. Boyer of Ann Arbor, MI, James R. Coates and Vincent J. Coates; sister, Shirley Marr of Upper Marlboro, MD; several nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Dorothy Ruffin; and God-daughter, Chari Anderson.
