James Eugene Hogan

February 11, 1943 — July 11, 2020

The Reverend James Eugene Hogan, age 77, of Belcamp, Maryland, passed away on July 11, 2020 at his home. Born in Durham, North Carolina, he was the son of Thurman Eugene Hogan and Flora Elizabeth (Pope) Teele and husband of Pamela Hogan. James served his country proudly for ten years: eight Navy and two Army including a 16-month deployment to Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War. Following military service, Jim served his community as a pastor for over 40 years. He built churches and grew congregations across the state most recently in the town he called home, New Bern, NC. Jim loved his family, his church, and friends, and all who knew him loved him dearly. He was a leader and mentor to many.

Jim was preceded in death by his former wife, Nancy Sue Hogan. Jim is survived by his daughter, Carmen Wright of Aberdeen; two sons, Lieutenant Commander Phillip Hogan, U.S. Navy, CA, and Timothy Paul Hogan of Honolulu, HI; five granddaughters, Brittany Castelow and Bethany Ricks, Hannah, Kate, and Palba Hogan; three grandsons, Jonathan Mark and Luke Ricks, and George Hogan; two great-granddaughters, Addyson and Everleigh Castelow; and two great-grandsons, Alexander and Gideon Ricks.

Jim will be laid to rest Friday, 17 July 2020, at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, Jacksonville, NC, with full military honors.
