James E. Cooper, age 67, of Baldwin, MD, passed away on July 2, 2012 at Greater Baltimore Medical Center in Baltimore, MD. Born in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Alexander Brinton Cooper Jr. and Jeanne Rugieri Cooper. He graduated from Baltimore Polytechnic Institute in May 1962, the University of Maryland School of Electrical Engineers in June 1967 and Loyola College in May 1986 where he received his MBA in Business. He started work at Westinghouse in Hunt Valley on June 5, 1967 and retired in May 2012, after 45 years, from Westinghouse/Northrup Grumman where he was a Quality Control Engineer. He was a member of Mt. Nebo Jephthah Lodge # 222 of Masonic Order and a candidate instructor, past president of Baltimore Demolay, an American Society for Quality Fellow where he was past president of the Inspection Division and editor of the newsletter, and was a Maryland State Candidate for the Republican Party. He coached for Rec Council softball, basketball and soccer and was an umpire for Harford/Cecil County softball and volleyball. He was also a member of Union United Methodist Church where he was in the choir.
Mr. Cooper is survived by his wife of 44 ½ years, Barbara Chenworth Cooper of Baldwin, MD; son, Mark A. Cooper of Baldwin, MD; daughter, Rev. Kara S. Cooper of Nottingham, England; brother, Alexander B. Cooper III of Bel Air, MD; and grandchildren, Thomas C. Cooper and Alexandra Cooper of Baldwin, MD.
Pallbearers will be Donald Hess, Ron Findley, Bryan Bullis, Rick Eyre, Stuart Preston, Ed Dalton, Brian Ehrhart and Ed Scarborough.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Union U.M.C., 5225 Sweet Air Road, Baldwin, MD 21013 for Missionary Fund.
