James C. Mentzer Sr.

April 27, 1917 — August 18, 2014

James C. Mentzer Sr., age 97, of Bel Air, MD, passed away on August 18, 2014 at his home. Born in Chester, PA to the late John Clarence and Clara Lillian Jones Mentzer, he was the oldest of seven children. He was the husband, for 67 years, of the late Margaret W. Mentzer who died in 2010 and with who he had traveled around the world. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served our country during WWII and worked as a Foreman/Supervisor at Aberdeen Proving Ground until his retirement in 1973. An avid golfer, he played semi-pro baseball for the old Susquehanna League Baseball Team. He was a member of Bel Air United Methodist Church.

Mr. Mentzer is survived by his sons, John Thomas Mentzer and wife, Barbara, of Jefferson City, MO, James Clarence Mentzer Jr. and wife, Jill, and Richard Kenneth Mentzer, all of Bel Air; brothers, John Noble Mentzer and William W. Mentzer; grandchildren, John T. Mentzer Jr., Nina M. Mentzer, Yvonne L. Larichiuta and Noelle L. Brannock; and great-grandchildren, Lexi and Tristan Brannock and Jacob and Mason Smith. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his siblings, Ralph and Roy Mentzer, Irene Danner and Betty Hutchinson.
