J. Donald Thomann, age 93, of Bel Air, Maryland passed away on December 14, 2024, at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, Maryland. Born at Misericordia Hospital in upper Manhattan, New York City on 12 July 1931. Mr. Thomann was raised by an aunt and uncle in Wilkes Barre, PA until February 1934 when rejoined his family and went to grade school at St. Therese School in Wilkes Barre. He went to St. Mary’s High School for four years and graduated in June 1949. He entered Kings College in fall 1949 and graduated in June 1953 with a BA in Economics. Drafted into the Army in August 1953, he completed telephone splicer school and leadership school (NCO) before being shipped to Korea. Stationed at Pusan telephone exchange, he was discharged in 1955 from Ft. Mead, MD with the rank of Corporal. Mr. Thomann then started graduate school at Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in September 1957, earning a Masters Degree in International Trade and Finance. Upon graduating he started a job with Chase Manhattan Bank in the International Dept. He later worked later for Schering Corp, Overseas Service Corp, Marshall and Stevens, The American Management Assoc., National Bureau of Property Administration, and was Founder and President of Marketing Services International, with offices in New York, Toronto, and Brussels. He loved coaching kids in basketball, with his teams having won championships. He was deeply devoted to trying to be a good husband, father, and friend.
In addition to his wife Doris (Cate), Joseph is survived by his sons, Donald J. Thomann of Bel Air, MD and Mark D. Thomann of Denver, CO.
