J. Bernard Dayhoof, Jr., age 70, of Bel Air, MD, passed away on October 25, 2011 at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, MD. Born in Bel Air, he was the son of the late James Bernard Dayhoof, Sr. and Beulah Mitchell Dayhoof. Shortly after graduating from Bel Air High School in 1958, he entered the U.S. Navy. After discharge from the service, he worked for Black and Decker and Corbin Fuel Company. Bernie gained experience and developed his love for working in the field of home improvements while working for Richard Edwards Contracting. Bernie owned and operated his own business for 35 years earning a reputation for excellence in the home improvement industry. His strong work ethic was the cornerstone of his life's work.
Bernie was a hard worker but still found time to have fun. He enjoyed being with friends, eating crabs, and flounder fishing at his second home in Warren's Park in Ocean City, MD. He also enjoyed traveling and camping in the Florida Keys. Other interests included working in his shop, gardening, and yard work. He was an avid fan of the old Baltimore Colts and loved watching the Baltimore Orioles and Ravens, as well. Bernie loved his country and was proud of being a member of the American Legion Post 39. Proud of his Harford County roots, Bernie enjoyed reminiscing with friends and family about the good times they shared.
Mr. Dayhoof is survived by his wife, Joanne Taylor Fleming of Bel Air, MD; son, Kevin Thomas Dayhoof; daughter, Julie Ann Ewers and husband, Robert; stepson, Russell Fleming and wife, Lisa; stepdaughters, Kimberly Fleming and Niki Burger and husband, Jeff, all of Bel Air, MD; sisters, Betty Ellen Findley and husband, Walter Sr., of Darlington, MD, and Roxanne Dayhoof Burton of Churchville, MD; sister-in-law, Marlee Dayhoof of Darlington, MD; and grandson, Sean Ewers of Bel Air, MD. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Larry Richard Dayhoof and brother-in-law, John Burton. And last, Bernie will be missed by man's best friend, his Benny.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Dayhoof, Robert Ewers, Russell Fleming, Jeff Burger, Walter Rice, III, and Peter Garth. Interment will be at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery in Bel Air, MD.
