Howard U. Merkl

Howard U. Merkl, age 82, of Bel Air, MD, died on January 23, 2010 at his home. Born in Cincinnati, OH, he was the son of the late Peter John and Clotilda Meyer Merkl, and husband of the late Michaela Tichy Merkl. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he had worked for the Bel Air Post Office for 20 years. An avid bowler and bird watcher, he enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and his dog Barney.

Mr. Merkl is survived by his son, Peter J. Merkl and wife, Sandra M., of Pittsville, MD; daughers, Christine M. Jamnicky and husband, Bernard, of Pittsburgh, PA and Susanne V. Mantione and husband, Ross, of Dauphin, PA; brother, Edward Merkl of Cincinnati, OH; sister, Anna Mae Allgeier of Cincinnati, OH; loving companion, Patricia Topper of Havre de Grace, MD; 6 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Peter Jamnicky, Ross Mantione, Nicholas Nelson, Matthew Nelson, Kenny Freeman, and Jerry Algeier.
