On May 15, 2019, Howard Daniel Jones III, age 77, of Bel Air, MD passed away peacefully at his home, after being diagnosed with mesothelioma.
He was a remarkable man, a loving and generous husband and father, and a supportive and caring friend. He had the keen ability to have an infinitely positive outlook on life and to appreciate the joys of good food, good drink, and spending time with family and friends. He was the consummate host with a wonderful sense of humor. He will be celebrated and missed by many.
He was born on February 4, 1942 in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Howard D. Jones, Jr. and Josephine (Jones) Allender.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Phyllis Bernadette Jones; his son Howard D. Jones, IV and his partner Dawn Raymondo of Asheville, NC; his son Jason B. Jones and his wife Stephanie of Ruxton, MD; and his beloved grandchildren Hannah Jones of North Carolina; Ethan and Alex Jones of Maryland. He is also survived by his sister Agnes Molloy and her husband Patrick of Baltimore, MD. His sister-in-law Mary Clough, nieces Amy (Clough) Schubert and Heather (Clough) Reinsfelder, and nephew Thomas Molloy are loving members of his extended family.
He was a graduate of Baltimore Polytechnic Institute and received a BA, Business from the University of Baltimore in 1964. He served in the U.S. Army after graduation.
He loved playing competitive tennis, watching college basketball and college football. He enjoyed traveling, boating, fishing, and wagering on a friendly game of Texas Hold ‘em poker.
In his younger years, he was an avid marathon runner, snow skier, and golfer.
After his retirement as a senior executive with Baltimore Equitable Insurance in 2004, he devoted his time and talents to numerous community and charitable organizations in Harford County. He was very active in The American Legion Hartford Post 39, serving in various roles for the benefit of military veterans. He was a faithful parishioner of St. Ignatius Church.
