HOWARD ALBERT HARTLEY, age 94, of Bel Air, died in Mariner Health of Bel Air on April 14, 2004. Born in Galax, Virginia, he was the son of the late Louis David and Callie Hash Hartley, and the husband of the late Catherine Virginia Rierson Hartley. He had retired after 29 years of service at Aberdeen Proving Ground where he worked as an electrical lineman. A resident of Maryland for 84 years, he was a charter member of the Bel Air Moose and a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and the Union Chapel Methodist Church. He enjoyed gardening, especially growing tomatoes, and was an avid sportsman who loved to hunt and fish.
Mr. Hartley is survived by two daughters, Bonnie V. Caine of Bel Air and Sandra K. Turner and her husband, Daniel D. Turner, of Newton, Alabama; one brother, Phleet Hartley of Bel Air; one sister, Phyllis Himmer of Fallston; four grandchildren, Meredith A. Caine of Washington, D.C.; Phillip C. Caine of Bel Air; Nanette A. Riddle and her husband, Carnie Riddle of Greensboro, North Carolina; and Beverly K. Gibson and her husband, Jerry Gibson of Montgomery, Alabama.
