Hilda S. Mathis

Hilda S. Mathis, age 94, of Havre de Grace, MD passed away on January 9, 2017 at the Citizens Care and Rehabilitation Center in Havre de Grace. Born in Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of Emanuel Schoenberger and Hilda Gerda (Carlberg) Bauer, and wife of the late Julian Dayton Mathis. She was a member of Vasa Order of America which began more than a century ago as a benefit fraternal society for Swedish immigrants to the United States. She was a graduate of Frankford High School and a member of the Alumi Association in Philadelphia, PA. A lifelong Lutheran, she lived through the "Great Depression", working in a factory during WWII where she made defense weapons. She was a true "Rosie the Riveter". Hilda concluded her career working at the Lutheran Church of America's national supply center in Philadelphia. Hilda will be interred next to her late husband Julian Dayton Mathis who passed in 1963.

Mrs. Mathis is survived by daughter, Hilda J. Mathis of Havre de Grace; son, Donald W. Mathis and wife, Carol, of Havre de Grace; and granddaughter, Jennifer McAllister and husband, Ross, of San Jose, CA.
