HERSCHEL D. FENDER, age 93, of Bel Air, MD, died on May 10, 2007 at Forest Hill Health and Rehabilitation, Forest Hill, MD. Born in Hamburg, IA, he was the son of the late John Datson and Cynthia Jean Cox Fender, and husband of the late Anna Virginia Mason Fender. A longtime resident of Harford County, he worked for Charles L. Lutz, Inc. on Main Street in Bel Air, since 1949. He graduated from Glade Valley School in North Carolina. He was a long standing member of Bel Air United Methodist Church, and a former member of Bush River Power Squadron, where he taught piloting and boating safety. He was an avid rail enthusiast, and was very interested in both model and full-scale operational trains. He also built his own kayaks from kits, and paddled on every waterway in the County.
Mr. Fender is survived by two sons, H. Stephen Fender of Bel Air, MD, and David Allen Fender and his wife, Evelyn P. Edmunds-Fender, of Fallston, MD; and two granddaughters, Meredith Fender of Brookline, MA, and Julie Fender of Fallston, MD.
