HENRY HANSON BOYER, of Bel Air died on April 7, 2005 at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center after a long illness. He was 78.
He was born and grew up on the family farm on Bush River, Perryman. He was the son of the late Oliver P. Boyer, Sr. and Louise Nelson Boyer. He graduated from the University of Maryland and served in the Air Force in World War II. Mr. Boyer was an insurance broker and real estate developer and developed several housing developments in the county.
The Boyers operated Southampton Horse Farm in Bel Air for many years.
He was active in historical restoration and served as President of the Historical Society of Harford County.
Growing up on Bush River, he loved the Chesapeake Bay. He owned many boats including a rescued rowboat, classic speedboat, cabin boat, Army duck and a 75-foot Coast Guard cutter.
He and his wife were members of the theatre group, the Susquehanna Players, and he procured a large barge which he turned into a floating theatre docked at the foot of Green Street in Havre de Grace.
He was an excellent dancer and enjoyed dancing to the Big Bands. He started playing tennis at age 45 and enjoyed playing with a group of tennis buddies for many years.
Mr. Boyer is survived by his wife of 51 years, Patricia Givler Boyer; two daughters, Loretta Krach and her husband, Philip of Bel Air and Madeleine Boyer and her husband, Richard Adler of Malvern, Pennsylvania; four grandchildren, Madeleine Kilchenstein of Bel Air, Evan Kilchenstein of Severn Park, Isabel and Ian Adler both of Malvern, Pennsylvania; and his brother, Oliver P. Boyer, Jr. and his wife, Jean of Bel Air.
