HELEN L. GILLESPIE, age 87, of Abingdon, MD, formerly of Aberdeen, died on March 9, 2008 at Hart Hertiage in Street, MD. Born in Bay City, MI, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Sarah Gwizdala Lewandowski and wife of the late Lt. Col. John W. Gillespie Jr. (USA Ret). She retired from Harford County Public Schools where she worked in food service at Oakington-Roy Williams School. She was a member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church and was a Eucharistic Minister for Aberdeen Proving Ground Chapel for many years. A former member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Bay City, MI, she participated and was secretary of their Athletic Club, participated in the Music and CLES Club and was guest soloist for weddings, funerals, and all events. As a member of choir holka she was also their librarian. She sang with the Baltimore Symphony Choir.
Mrs. Gillespie is survived by two sons, John A. Gillespie and his wife, Renee, of Anaheim, CA, and Robert J. Gillespie Sr. and his wife, Patricia, of Abingdon, MD; a daughter, Deborah A. Gillespie-Daniels and her husband, Dan, of Bel Air, MD; a brother, Louis Lewandowski and his wife, Eileen, of Bay City, MI; a sister, Angeline Pabich of Bay City, MI; nine grandchildren, Zachary J. Daniels of Norfolk, VA, Drew B. Daniels and Elizabeth M. Daniels, both of Bel Air, MD, Jacqueline R. Gillespie of Orange, CA, John W. Gillespie and Joseph A. Gillespie, both of Anaheim, CA, Robert J. Gillespie Jr. of Red Lion, PA, Patrick T. Gillespie of Abingdon, MD, and Jeffrey G. Gillespie of Baltimore, MD; and four great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Zachary J. Daniels, Drew B. Daniels, John W. Gillespie, Joseph A. Gillespie, Robert J. Gillespie Jr., Patrick T. Gillespie, and Jeffery G. Gillespie.
