Helen Jean Ails, age 83, of Joppa, MD, passed away on March 9, 2012 at her home. Born in Chicago, IL, she was the daughter of the late Robert Sparrow and Lillian Pickering Johnston. She had worked as a Critical Care Registered Nurse and enjoyed needlework, quilting and gardening. She was a member of the National League of American Pen Women, Mensa, as well as, Salem United Methodist Church and the Edgewood Chapter of AARP, where she was the Treasurer for both. She was also a published magazine author.
Mrs. Ails is survived by her husband of 67 years, Roscoe Cleveland Ails of Joppa, MD; sons, Kenneth Robert Ails and wife, Rebecca, of Julian, NC, David Jonathan Ails and wife, Kym, of Frederick, MD and Randall Clifford Ails and wife, Dolores, of Rising Sun, MD; daughter, Kathleen Diane Matter of Charlestown, MD; brothers, Robert P. Johnston of Easton, KS and David Warren Johnston of Schaumburg, IL; seven grandchildren, Michaela, Keelan, Connor, and James Ails, Deborah Stozek, Ann Kotkas and husband, Erik, and David Oldewurtel; and four great-grandchildren, Michael and Cody Ails and Paige and Lacie Phipps.
