Helen Carpenter

Helen Carpenter, age 93, of Bel Air, Maryland, passed away on February 16, 2025, at Gilchrist Hospice in Towson, Maryland. Born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late James and Ellen (Moran) Donohoe and the beloved wife of the late Gerald R. Carpenter.

As a homemaker, Helen had a deep passion for both sewing and antiques. She brought new life to old treasures through her business, The Carpenter Shop, where she lovingly refurbished vintage trunks. A seasoned traveler, Helen had a love for exploration, including several pilgrimages to Ireland, where she discovered the ancestral home of her grandfather, Patrick Moran, on the island of Inisbofin off the coast of Galway. 

A dedicated community member, Helen was a longtime volunteer at the St. Margaret Parish in Bel Air. She was also instrumental in the establishment of the Homecoming Project with her late husband Jerry.

Helen will be remembered for her generous spirit and her love of family. She touched many lives and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Helen is survived by her daughters, Mary Ellen Kelly (David); Susan Marie Kraft (Will); son, Michael Joseph Carpenter (Teresa); grandchildren, Brian (Robin), Ellen (Tim), Will (Andrea), Chuck (Taylor), Cody, Daphne, Zach, Maddie; great grandchildren, Hope (Isaac), Andrew, Nora, Kaelyn, Kylie, Liliana.

There will be a visitation at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 1021 St. Mary’s Road, Pylesville, MD, 21132, on Monday, March 3rd at 10:00 am. A mass and internment will follow at 11:00 am.
