Harry L.W. Hopkins

May 7, 1926 — August 11, 2013

Harry L. W. Hopkins, age 87, of Bel Air, MD passed away on August 11, 2013 at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, MD. Born in Baltimore, he was the son of the late William Wyllie Hopkins Sr. and Annabel Webb Hopkins and husband of the late Annie Laurie Rampley Hopkins. A veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force, he served our country during WWII. He was Register of Wills for Harford County for 24 years. Prior to this he was the owner and operator of Harry L.W. Hopkins Insurance Agency. He also worked for Fosters Funeral Home and sold tombstones for J.C. Taylor and Silbaugh Memorials. He was a judge of the Harford County Orphan's Court for 12 years, worked for the Bel Air Post Office for several years; was Vice President of Harford Finance Company in Bel Air; worked for Harford Mutual Insurance Company and also for the Town of Bel Air. A member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church, he also belonged to the American Legion Post #39 in Bel Air, the Bel Air Rotary Club, Highland Society of Harford County, Harford County Historical Society, VFW and Mt. Ararat Masonic Lodge in Bel Air.

Mr. Hopkins is survived by his son, Nelson W. Hopkins and wife, Kristine F. of Street; daughters, Ellen Hope Hopkins of Bel Air and Laura Ann Hopkins and wife, Kathy Schooley, of Woodstock; and grandchildren, Kaitlyn E. Hopkins and Allison N. Hopkins both of Street. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his brother, William Wylie Hopkins Jr.; and sister, Annabel H. Mitchell.

Pallbearers will be Ryland L. Mitchell III, Wylie H. Mitchell Sr., Wylie H. Mitchell Jr., Derek K. Hopkins, Philip N. Anderson and Charles L. Robbins Jr.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 1 St. Mary's Church Road, Abingdon, MD 21009 or a charity of your choice.
