Harry Judd Boniface, age 87, of Bel Air, MD, formerly of Frederick, MD, died on July 26, 2009 at Forest Hill Health and Rehabilitation in Forest Hill, MD. Born in Albany, NY, he was the son of the late Fritz and Louise Judd Boniface and husband, for 60 years, of the late Kathryn Stifler Boniface. He lived, and raised horses, on a farm that was located where the Harford Community College now sits. He married his long time sweetheart, Kathryn Stifler, on November 1, 1943. A veteran of the U.S. Army from December 1942 until October 1945, he entered the service as a surveyor instrument man, and by August 1944, he wound up in Northern France and the Rhineland, as combat infantry utilizing his skills as a sharpshooter. After discharge in late 1945, Harry worked for the Maryland State Roads Commission as a project inspector. Much of this tenure of his life was spent on Eastern Shore road projects. During his early fifties, Harry began the task of Project Superintendent for the A.V. Williams Construction Company of Baltimore, overseeing projects such as Pocomoke ByPass, Charles Street through the big cut south of the Beltway, and the I-83 section through the Parkton area. In 1963, Harry began a move to Frederick. Beginning as a superintendent with Richard F. Kline Company of Frederick, he progressed through several years to the position of Vice President of Operations. Prior to official retirement in the early 1990's, at the age of 70, Harry and son Philip, started Monocacy Construction and performed many site and utility contracts in and around Frederick.
Mr. Boniface is survived by his son, Harry R. Boniface and his wife, Martha, of Bel Air, MD; sisters, Betty Moser and Helen Larrimore, both of Arizona; four grandchildren, David Boniface and wife, Carole, of Darlington, MD, Kathryn (Katie) Strickland and husband, Robin, of Churchville, MD, Ben Judd Boniface and wife, Jill, of Middletown, MD, and Sarah Boniface of Braddock Heights, MD; and five great-grandchildren, Jack Boniface, Zachary Strickland, Helen Sarah Boniface, Judd Boniface, and Josie Boniface. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his son, of 58 years, Philip J. Boniface.
Pallbearers will be David Boniface, Robin Strickland, Ben Boniface, William Boniface, Zachary Strickland, and Jack Boniface.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Christ Episcopal Church Cemetery Fund, 2100 Rock Spring Road, Forest Hill, MD 21050.
