HARRIETT COOLEY WHITEHURST, age 70, of Bel Air died at Lorien Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Bel Air on December 18, 2003. Born in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Charles Gilbert and Elsie Crowell Cooley. She was a graduate of the New Bel Air High School’s First Full Graduating Class and class Valedictorian. She graduated from Western Maryland College and taught at Franklin High School in Baltimore County and then at Aberdeen High School. She was a food service manager for many years at Camp Shohola for boys in Greeley, PA. She volunteered at Fallston General Hospital and for Meals on Wheels. She was a former member of the First Presbyterian Church, Bel Air. She was a current member of Bel Air United Methodist Church, a leader of the Abigail Circle, a past president of the United Methodist Women, co-chair of the Gingerbread Factory for many years, and past chair of the Senior Food Distribution.
Mrs. Whitehurst is survived by her husband of 48 years, James R. Whitehurst; one son, J. Patrick Whitehurst and his wife, Karen of Forest Hill; one daughter, Kristin E. Whitehurst and her husband Todd Keenan of Elmhurst, Illinois; two grandchildren, J. Jeffrey Whitehurst of Forest Hill; Jonathan A. Keenan of Elmhurst, Illinois; and sister-in-law, Shirley M. Whitehurst of Parkton, MD. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by one sister, Katherine C. Kelly.
