Harold Merritt Burdette

Harold Merritt Burdette, age 88, of Bel Air, MD, died on October 1, 2008 at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore, MD. Born in Renick, WV, he was the son of the late Franklin and Ada Merritt Burdette, and husband, of 43 years, of the late Thelma L. Burdette. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served our country during WWII. A resident of Harford County since 1953, he was a graduate of Marshal University with a BS in education, and from the University of Virginia with two masters degrees. He was the principal at both Wakefield Elementary and Homestead Elementary when they opened. He retired from the Harford County School System as a Supervisor of Elementary Education. He enjoyed gardening, wood crafts, loved painting and traveling, and was involved in ministering to flood victims, schools, unwed mothers, and prisoners in West Virginia.

Mr. Burdette is survived by his wife of 18 years, Agnes H. Burdette of Bel Air, MD; daughter, Bonnie S. Bromley and husband, Donny W., of Bel Air, MD; step-son, James M. Helbert and wife, Colleen G., of Cumming, GA, step-daughter, Patricia H. Jones and husband, John C., of Bel Air, MD; nine grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and first wife, he was predeceased by three brothers and one sister.
