HAROLD “BOOTS” B. HESS, age 88, of Monkton, MD, died on June 2, 2006 at the Upper Chesapeake Medical Center.
Born in Monkton, MD, he was the son of the late Benjamin Garfield and Lily May Base Hess.
He retired after running a dairy farm, owned by him and his brother, for 50 years. He worked as a foreman for the Harford County Department of Parks and Recreation for 13 years. He was a member of the Maryland Farm Bureau. His family said that he was an avid gardener who enjoyed his tractors, and his longtime friend and relative, Earl “Bud” Hess, and his dog, Skippy. He was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church.
Mr. Hess is survived by his wife of 4 years, Evelyn B. Worthington Riley Hess of Monkton, MD; one son, Walter B. Hess of Churchville, MD; two daughters, Clara M. Hess Kregar of Forest Hill, MD and Carolyn L. Hess Class of Baldwin, MD; three step-daughters, Shirley I. Smoot of Parkton, MD, Peggy Ann Washburn and Roberta L. Harmon, both of Selbyville, DE; 11 grandchildren, Jayme L. Kregar of Forest Hill, MD, Jennifer N. Class-Barilow of Abingdon, MD, Cynthia M. Class McGrew of Hampstead, MD, Lee B. Kregar of Forest Hill, MD, Ashley N. Hess and Renee A. Hess, both of Churchville, MD, Abigal S. Smoot and Robert S. Smoot, both of Parkton, MD, Kyle D. Washburn, Erin E. Rudacille, and Jeffrey Washburn, all of Selbyville, DE; and one great-granddaughter, Kayla A. Barilow of Abingdon, MD.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Anna L. Stifler Hess and a brother, Spurgen S. Hess.
Services were held on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 at the Ebenezer United Methodist Church with Rev. Travis D. Knoll officiating. Interment was in Highview Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Lee. B. Kregar, Dustin J. Barilow, Todd R. McGrew, Carroll W. Hess, Donald S. Hess, and Jhett S. Lewis. Honorary Pallbearers were Edwin S. Hess, Rudolph Harman and W. Dale Hess.
